ESPA Managing Board and Board Meeting
ESPA Managing Board and Board Meeting
On 7th of March, 2017 a meeting of the ESPA Managing Board and ESPA Board took place at the main office of the German sports federation in Berlin, Germany.
This meeting highlighted the following topics of the ESPA Work Programme: Crossboarder Healthcare, reform of the VAT rates, Medical Research, Quality and the ISO Medical Spa Services work, the ESPA Congress 2017 in Rome and the ESPA Innovation Awards 2017.
Workshop on Medical Research
Workshop on Medical Research
After the meetings a Workshop on Medical Research was organised for the ESPA members and guests.
The main goal of this workshop was the presentation of the ESPA Balneotherapy Epidemiologic Survey, a project of the ESPA Medical Research Working Group project.
The presentation was delivered by Prof. Christian Roques who highlighted the objectives, methodology and timeframe of the project. The first results of the survey will be known in the first quarter of 2018.

7th Health Tourism Conference organised by the Croatian Chamber of Economy in Rovinj (Croatia) 27th Feb-1st Mar
The Croatian Minister of Tourism, the assistant Minister of Health of Croatia, the Vice President of Croatian Medical chamber, some diplomates and several representatives of European and International institutions and organizations, attended the opening session of this important event about meeical and health tourism in Croatia and Europe.

The conferences treated medical and health tourism in Croatia but also in Europe.

On Tuesday 28th afternoon, President of ESPA participated at the European Health Industry Tourism Summit, which gathered representatives of 7 countries and a lot of Croatian personalities such as the Minister of Tourism of Croatia. A Member of the European Parliament from Croatia assisted also at this summit and informed the members that he will transmit to the European Parliament our needs.

In mid-February the new European Travel Commission bulletin was published. CHRODIS conference addressing chronic diseases and healthy ageing across Europe
The CHRODIS conference was held on 27-28th of February 2017 at the Thon Brussels City Center Hotel.

The two day’s event hosted representatives from health sector and the main goal was to examine the potential of the JA-CHRODIS Platform, which is dedicated in assessing and collecting best practices in the prevention of chronic diseases and promotion of healthy ageing across Europe. The main challenges in different European countries were presented and panel discussions for integrating health promotion with healthcare.

Public Members Meeting of “Quality in Health Prevention e.V.
On the 8th of March the international network “Quality in Health Prevention e.V.” (Quhep) held a public Members Meeting at the occasion of the travel trade fair ITB in Berlin. In total 21 participants from 10 countries listened to three keynote presentations by market insiders on current trends and opportunities on international markets in Health Tourism. There was large response to this invitation and it was very successful meeting. This was founded last year to serve as a platform uniting stakeholders of the European medical spa and balneology industry regarding quality aspects of health prevention measures. The preparations for the first international QuHeP Congress – the “European Health Prevention Day”, taking place on the 23 and 24 November in Wiesbaden are currently underway.

EuropeSpa Seminar on "Quality in Wellness & Spa"
Prior to ITB, EuropeSpa, the official quality system of the European Spas Association, held a seminar on "Quality in Wellness & Spa" on 6th and 7th of March in Potsdam. Nine participants from six countries learned about quality management in spa and wellness facilities, about structural aspects in a spa, therapies, remedies, health risks and, most importantly, what needs to happen behind the scenes to create the perfect spa experience for guests. EuropeSpa CEO Dr. Kurt von Storch elaborated on why conformity and perfection in detail are so important and how the Spa Business is, in many ways, Psychology. After this extensive theoretical input, the seminar was complemented by a guided tour of the spa area of the 4-star Inselhotel Potsdam, whose unique feature is a swimming sauna boat on the adjacent lake.

Roman Thermal Spas of Europe at ITB in Berlin
Bulgaria represented the European project "Roman Thermal Spas of Europe" during the ITB in Berlin, Germany. On the 8th of March, 2017 the event was opened by the Bulgarian Tourism Minister Stella Baltova, the project manager Tobias Bielenstein and Siyka Katsarova, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism and Vice President of the European Spas Association.

JA-CHRODIS 12 steps towards implementing practices to reduce the burden of chronic diseases
According to JA-CHRIDIS Final Conference, health promotion is a key to address non-communicable diseases. Today, clear steps towards addressing the broad chronic disease challenges were presented to policymakers, researchers, and international organisations and NGOs at the JA-CHRODIS final conference. The proposals are the culmination of three years of international collaboration in the area of chronic diseases. Twelve steps were accumulated by JA-CHRODIS Platform for implementing practices to decrease chronic diseases. For the steps in details, visit here.
